Addressing the program, Rio underscored the critical roles of administration and policing as the backbone of governance. He emphasized Nagaland’s recent economic strides, particularly in the private sector, but cautioned that such growth often accompanies increased challenges, including rising crime rates. Noting Dimapur as a focal point for addressing anti-social activities, Rio said securing Dimapur would contribute to overall safety in the state. Commending the Nagaland Police for their dedication and achievements, the Chief Minister called for continued cooperation between the public, administration, and law enforcement agencies.

Speaking at the flagging-off, Rio stated that the addition of these vehicles will help the police with quick response and more effective service to the public. He mentioned the remarkable economic growth in the country, which is forging ahead to be the fifth largest economy and is projected to move up to fourth and third in a few years’ time. The state has also experienced positive economic growth, particularly in private enterprises and rapid urban growth in areas like Dimapur, Chumoukedima, Niuland, Mokokchung, and Tuensang. However, this economic growth also brings multiple problems, such as increased crime. The Chief Minister expressed concern for the security and safety of all citizens, particularly the business community.

He pointed out that Dimapur, being the economic capital of the state, faces issues like extortion, illegal taxation, and crime due to its proximity to Assam and the diverse population it attracts. This makes it a breeding ground for illegal activities and social elements, presenting a significant challenge for policing. Asserting that if Dimapur is put in check, the entire state will be safer, he urged the police to upgrade themselves with the latest technology and adopt strict policies against social elements in urban areas.

Over the years, the police have actively performed their duties effectively, bringing laurels to the state by controlling crimes and smuggling. The CM hoped that the addition of new vehicles would enhance the police’s ability to track criminals and conduct operations. He assured the police that the government will always support and encourage them to continue their commendable work diligently, as they are the backbone of the government.

Rio further urged the public to support and cooperate with the police and administration in performing their duties effectively and providing peace and security to all citizens. He was optimistic that with the addition of these new vehicles, the police will achieve higher goals and gain the public’s confidence.

“Vehicles symbolize our dedication to respond swiftly and effectively” – Patton

“These vehicles symbolise our dedication to responding swiftly and effectively to the needs of the people,” stated Patton. According to Patton, they are an essential resource that will enhance their operational capabilities, particularly in areas where mobility is crucial for timely intervention.

Patton asserted that the outlook of crime is continuously evolving. “Emerging and new methods of committing crimes have put immense pressure on our policing needs, and I was hopeful that addition of these new vehicles will significantly bolster our Police force’s mobility,” said Patton.

“In urban areas like Dimapur with population density and urban spread present unique challenges, having a well-equipped Police force is not just a necessity but urgency,” he added.

He further urged the citizens of Nagaland to continue their partnership with the Police, as their vigilance, cooperation, and timely reporting of suspicious activities play a crucial role in preventing crime and maintaining peace.

The DGP highlighted the importance of surprise elements in patrols to catch criminals off guard, thereby enhancing overall security measures. He encouraged citizens to actively participate by reporting criminal activities, underscoring the community’s crucial role in maintaining safety. Sharma assured that refinements would be made to minimize public inconvenience while optimizing patrol effectiveness.
