The standoff between the Nagaland Government Teachers’ Association (NGTA) and the state government intensified on Thursday, with the association announcing continuation of its Phase-I democratic protest after receiving what it described as “no positive response” from the department over its demand for inclusion of its salary component under the State Non-Development Expenditure.
In a press release, the NGTA said it would resume the agitation on Friday from 9 am to 4 pm and reiterated that the protest would continue until its demand is met without exception.
In a press release, the association stated that more than 1,500 members participated in the initial phase of the protest.
It stated that the participants included lactating mothers and members who were unwell, underscoring what it termed a “genuine and unavoidable” movement in pursuit of their rights.
The association also acknowledged the district administration and police department for maintaining law and order during the protest, which it said ensured the smooth conduct of the democratic demonstration.
The association announced that the protest will continue on Friday from 9 am to 4 pm and would continue the peaceful and democratic protest until its demand is met without any exception.
