The Nagaland Government Teachers’ Association (NGTA) has intensified its agitation by launching the first phase of a peaceful and democratic protest from February 26 at the Directorate of School Education (DoSE) in Kohima. The protest will be held daily from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm and involves 2,293 teachers from the erstwhile SSA and RMSA 2010 and 2013 batches, who were formally mainstreamed into the State Education Cadre in 2022 following Cabinet approval.

The NGTA (2010 and 2013 batches) stated that despite their absorption into the state cadre effective April 21, 2022, their salaries continue to be drawn under Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) funding instead of the State Account Head, unlike other regular state cadre employees. Multiple representations seeking inclusion of their salary component under the State Non-Development Expenditure have reportedly received no concrete response.

After serving a seven-day ultimatum to the Principal Director of School Education on February 16 and holding a two-day pen-down strike on February 24 and 25, the aggrieved teachers said the continued lack of resolution compelled them to intensify their agitation.
