Nagaland Governor and president of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Nagaland State Branch, Nand Kishore Yadav, has called for strengthening the Red Cross network across the state to ensure timely humanitarian assistance, particularly during emergencies and natural disasters.

Addressing the “Dinner With a Purpose” programme at Golden Jubilee Hall, Cathedral, Kohima, on Friday, Yadav said Nagaland’s difficult terrain, scattered settlements and vulnerability to landslides, floods and fires made preparedness, trained volunteers and prompt response essential.
He stressed the need to strengthen district Red Cross branches through trained volunteers, emergency resources and coordination with district administrations, ensuring that remote communities received assistance without delay.
Yadav also called for strengthening the Humanitarian Corpus Fund and Emergency Relief Fund to sustain humanitarian activities and provide immediate relief, medical assistance and essential supplies during crises. He urged institutions, corporate organisations, philanthropists and well-wishers to contribute generously.
Emphasising voluntary blood donation, first aid and disaster preparedness, he encouraged collaboration with hospitals, educational institutions, churches, youth groups and civil society organisations. He also called for greater youth participation to build a sustainable humanitarian movement.
Chief Minister and IRCS Nagaland State Branch vice-president Neiphiu Rio described the initiative as a welcome step and urged people to support the Society’s humanitarian work.
Acknowledging its contributions since its establishment in 1982, Rio praised the organisation’s relief efforts during natural calamities and disasters, expressing hope that continued public support would strengthen its services across Nagaland.
