The Street Vendors Association Nagaland (SVAN) has issued directives to all street vendors and hawkers, urging strict compliance with municipal regulations, legal requirements and food safety standards.
In a press release, the association reiterated that street vending must remain suspended until 12 noon on Sundays to maintain the sanctity of morning church hours. It stated that no vending operations would be permitted before the stipulated time.
SVAN also directed vendors and hawkers not to encroach upon public footpaths, stating that these must remain clear for pedestrians. The association referred to the right to walk on footpaths in its directive against obstruction of public spaces.
All street food vendors have been instructed to stop using inked, printed or written paper to wrap, serve or pack food items due to potential chemical hazards.
The association further directed food handlers to wear appropriate hygiene gear, including aprons, gloves and hairnets, to ensure safe food handling.
SVAN called for full cooperation from its members and warned that violations of the directives would invite strict disciplinary action.
