To address industry concerns and in the broader public interest, the Nagaland government has announced a temporary relaxation of the ban on single-use plastics and plastic bottles under one liter, extending the deadline until November 30, 2024.
During this period, all retailers, wholesalers, and manufacturers using single-use plastics or plastic bottles below one liter must dispose of their existing stocks. Manufacturers and suppliers are also required to implement effective measures for the collection and disposal of waste plastic bottles.
Additionally, the Federation of Nagaland Packaged Drinking Water Manufacturer Association (FNPMA) will implement the proposed buyback scheme during this period. Deputy Commissioners have been tasked with informing local bodies and village authorities to ensure strict compliance and safe disposal of waste plastics within their respective jurisdictions.
It was further clarified that all other items and conditions from the earlier notification dated July 10, 2024, remain unchanged.
