A meeting of the GST Grievance Redressal Committee for Nagaland State was held on February 25, under the chairmanship of S K Sinha, Chief Commissioner, CGST and Customs, Guwahati Zone, who is in charge of the northeast region.

The meeting was attended by senior officers from both Central and State GST departments, along with representatives from leading trade and industry bodies, including the Business Association of Nagas, the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industries, and the Young Indians Nagaland Chapter. Chartered accountants and tax practitioners were also present.

The GST Grievance Redressal Committee serves as a forum to address taxpayer grievances and operational issues arising under the GST regime. During the meeting, members of the business community raised concerns related to increasing tax exemption limits for Nagaland under the Composition Scheme and the Quarterly Returns Monthly Payment scheme. Structural and policy issues were also discussed, including the inclusion of petroleum products under GST to enable businesses to claim input tax credit on fuel. Other matters highlighted included the problem of illegal taxation faced by local businesses and the need for enhanced awareness and outreach programmes.

Representatives from Young Indians shared feedback on the recently conducted “GST Sahyogi” programme, under which the CGST Commissionerate trained 35 youth nominated by the business community to create a pool of local talent to assist small and medium enterprises with GST compliance.

The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by S K Mahanta, Commissioner, CGST, who thanked participants for their engagement and encouraged the trade and industry to actively use the Grievance Redressal Committee as a platform to constructively address GST-related issues faced by businesses in Nagaland.
