Mokokchung, 11 April (MTNews): The Nagaland Janata Dal (United) on Thursday said it was “flabbergasted” to come across the statement of the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) Clean Election Movement appealing to the Nagaland Voters to vote consciously against “bigotry,” which was published in local newspapers on 11 April 2024.

According to the JD (U), the NBCC’s call to vote against bigotry comes across as hypocritical, especially considering the behavior of some religious figures during the 2023 General Assembly elections.

“What the JDU cannot comprehend is that during the last General Assembly elections 2023, many Reverends, Pastors and prominent church workers were busy tacitly or even openly supporting various candidates of political Party whom it is now obviously being termed as “Bigotry “. It is indeed an act of hypocrisy that only in the ongoing Parliamentary election, the term Bigotry or “Vote Consciously” or “Safeguard Democracy” is coming out of the office of NBCC,” remarked JD (U).

The JD (U) further criticized the NBCC stating that the NBCC should have tried to “cut the roots instead of trying to play with the branches with toothlessness.”

“Moreover, if the NBCC “Bigotry” is to mean BJP, then it is absolutely misconstrued because the present prominent PDA/NDA candidate is from NDPP which has its own constitution and foundation rooted to regional basics,” added the JD (U) Nagaland.

The JD (U) called upon the NBCC to “tread its own path of righteousness” and strengthen its members with spiritual food rather than mess with a system which is beyond their power and responsibilities.
