Nagaland’s lone Lok Sabha MP, S Supongmeren Jamir, has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to declare emergency relief for the state following the widespread devastation caused by incessant rains, floods and landslides.

In a letter addressed to the Prime Minister, Jamir said the monsoon disaster had caused extensive damage across Nagaland, with Mon and Mokokchung among the worst-affected districts. He noted that lives have been lost, homes destroyed and livestock washed away, while roads and bridges in several districts have suffered severe damage, disrupting communication and the movement of essential commodities.

The MP also highlighted the difficulties faced by residents in remote and interior areas, particularly students stranded due to damaged roads and disrupted connectivity. He acknowledged the Indian Army’s helicopter operations in reaching inaccessible areas and providing relief.

Describing the situation as a humanitarian crisis, Jamir appealed to the Centre to extend immediate assistance for rescue, relief, rehabilitation and restoration of damaged infrastructure and connectivity.

He urged the Prime Minister to treat the situation with urgency and ensure timely support to help affected communities recover and rebuild their lives.
