The Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA), in collaboration with the Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) and the Department of Youth Resources & Sports, Government of Nagaland, conducted its second selection trial in preparation for the 39th National Games 2027 at the Multi-Purpose Hall, Viswema, on Tuesday.
The trial covered Freestyle, Greco-Roman and Women’s Wrestling. According to a press statement issued by NWA Joint Secretary Kuzhovesa Soho, the selection trial followed an intensive training camp that began on August 20, aimed at preparing wrestlers for the National Games to be hosted by Meghalaya, with Nagaland co-hosting the wrestling discipline.
The initiative seeks to identify and nurture wrestlers who will represent Nagaland at the National Games, while strengthening wrestling and developing competitive talent in the state.
President of the Chakhesang Wrestling Association, Vezohu Ruho, attended the programme as Special Guest and encouraged the wrestlers to maintain discipline, tolerance and a God-fearing attitude in their pursuit of excellence. He said there was “no shortcut to success” and that dedicated effort was essential.
The programme was chaired by NWA Joint Secretary Kuzhovesa Soho, while NWA Property Secretary Rangsilang invoked God’s blessings for the programme.
A total of 45 eligible wrestlers from the Angami, Chakhesang, Zeliang, Chang, Sumi, Pochury, Sangtam and Rengma communities took part in the trials. The selection process was supported by NWA Co-opted Technical Secretary Kikhwesül Thokhwe, coach Suryansh Sehrawat and assistant coach Thechamo Murry.
More selection trials are expected to be conducted in the coming months as preparations continue for Nagaland’s wrestling contingent for the National Games.
