Nagaland Police said that, during the course of investigations into cases of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances cases in the state, and after examination of multiple Drug users, the investigators have noticed a discernible and visible pattern.

“The users and addicts show visible and prominent physiological changes in the jaw and dental patterns and discoloration of the teeth of the regular Yaba (Sunflower),” it said.
It added that these erosions are possibly due to the corrosive effect of the drugs used by ‘oral administration’.

The advisory also shared a few sample photographs of teeth-decay or corrosion. It also said that although teeth deformities may not be conclusive evidence of drug abuse, they are a good initial indicator that a person may be using drugs.

“Therefore, this Advisory is being issued for the benefit of the Public at large and parents in particular so that these subtle changes can be noticed in the suspected Drug users and timely actions can be taken especially among vulnerable sections of the society like children and adolescents and our near and dear ones can be attended to through interventions and rehabilitation,” the advisory read.
