Nagaland Police has issued a warning to the public following the circulation of a malicious APK file named “PM Kisan Yojana”, which is being widely shared across various districts and blocks in the state.
According to a press release from the police, the file is being circulated via individuals and groups, and poses a serious cybersecurity threat. “Once this APK file is clicked and installed, the person will not be able to operate the mobile,” the police cautioned.
The malware reportedly hijacks the user’s device, gaining control over WhatsApp and automatically forwarding itself to all contacts and groups associated with the infected user. “The WhatsApp automatically gets controlled by APK,” stated the police.
Authorities have urged the public not to click on, download, or install the APK file under any circumstance. “Do not share the APK file,” the police emphasized, urging people to disseminate this alert for wider awareness.
The public is strongly advised to stay vigilant and avoid interacting with suspicious files, especially those claiming to be linked to government schemes like PM-Kisan Yojana.
