The current broken state of roads in the State capital Kohima, commercial hub Dimapur and across other districts of Nagaland has been published and reported in numerous media platforms. This is an ‘interesting phenomenon’ in itself. Many people will relate the bad roads to the monsoon season but is it really so?

According to my opinion the immediate few years after Assembly elections will see the least amount of development. It’s a cooling off period after a high cost election season where crores of rupees have been spend on the campaign trail and in which the corrupt public has also benefitted.

And so we are currently going through a lean season, a much needed time for the political class and parties to recover their election investments or expenses!

Going by the dynamics of development and elections in Nagaland and the co-relation between the two factors, the present road conditions may begin to improve and shine around 2027.

And as we come closer to the next elections in 2028, ‘good works’ will be highlighted by our political class. ‘Election pledges’ of development and solution will once again reverberate in Nagaland. But I hope I am proved wrong!!
