Mokokchung, July 4 (MTNews): Twenty Taekwondo athletes competed for Nagaland during the three-day Open India Kukkiwon Dispatched Master Championship, which was held at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Jorhat, Assam,  from July 1–3, and was organized by Titabor Dojang Taekwondo Academy. The athletes brought honour to the state by winning 8 Gold, 6 Silver, and 4 Bronze medals under Visabiu Peseyie, the state taekwondo coach, and Khrieto the team manager.

 

Coach Peseyie explained to Mokokchung Times that the department had sent him to certain areas last year to scout for potential Taekwondo competitors. He went on to say that he chose seven promising young athletes (all boys under the age of 10) and accepted them to the sports academy at the IG Stadium in Kohima. Among the seven players, two won Gold and one secured silver medal.

 

Five Naga Taekwondo boys, Heutingyi Zeliang, Boto Chophy, Teklung Phom, Yentsuthung Tikhir and Neikhozo Naprantsu have been inducted into army boys’ sports company, Ranikhet. He added,

 

“The talented players need special training and competition in international arena from time to time in order to become a professional player.”
Coach Peseyie said the team from Sports Academy, IG Stadium, Kohima who represented the state participated in Kyorugi (sparring) competition.
