Along with the rest of the nation, the 2nd Quarterly National Lok Adalat (People’s Courts) for the year 2025 will be observed in all district headquarters under the aegis of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) on 10th May 2025.
A total of 11 Lok Adalat Benches will be set up by the District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs).
As per the provisions of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, read with the National Legal Services Authority (Lok Adalats) Regulations, 2009, it is customary to conduct four National Lok Adalats each year in all District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) under the State Legal Services Authority.
Generally, both pre-litigation and pending cases can be taken up for settlement in the National Lok Adalats (People’s Courts), which include various types of civil and criminal compoundable cases. These may include cases under the Negotiable Instruments Act (Section 138), money recovery cases, motor accident claim cases, labour dispute cases, disputes related to public utility services such as electricity and water bill cases (excluding non-compoundable cases), matrimonial disputes (except divorce), family disputes, land acquisition cases, service matters including pension cases, revenue and other ancillary matters pending before the High Court, district courts, state/district/taluka authorities, intellectual property rights (IPR) matters, consumer matters, and other cases pending before any quasi-judicial authority.
Other civil cases such as rent disputes, easementary rights, injunction suits, and specific performance suits may also be taken up.
In the 1st Quarterly National Lok Adalat held on 8th March 2025, a total of 291 matters and disputes were settled and disposed of out of 427 cases taken up. The total amount involved in the settlement was Rs 3,87,35,490/- only.
