The 4th Quarterly National Lok Adalat (People’s Courts) for the year 2024 will be held across all district headquarters in Nagaland on December 14, 2024. The event will be conducted under the auspices of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA).
In line with the provisions of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, and the National Legal Services Authority (Lok Adalats) Regulations, 2009, the National Lok Adalat is organized four times annually in all District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) and the High Court Legal Services Committee (HCLSC) under the State Legal Services Authority. A total of 11 Lok Adalat Benches will be set up across the state by the DLSAs.
In preparation for the event, all concerned parties have been directed to conduct pre-Lok Adalat or pre-conciliation sittings before the National Lok Adalat. These sessions are aimed at facilitating negotiations and offering opportunities for parties to reach settlements or compromises ahead of the formal Lok Adalat proceedings.
The National Lok Adalat will cover a wide range of cases, including both pre-litigation and pending civil and criminal compoundable cases. These include National Insurance Act cases under Section 138, money recovery cases, motor accident claims, labor disputes, and disputes related to public utility services such as electricity and water bills. Matrimonial disputes (except divorce), family disputes, land acquisition cases, service matters (including pension cases), revenue matters, intellectual property rights (IPR) matters, consumer disputes, and other cases pending before quasi-judicial authorities will also be addressed.
For more information, individuals can contact the Front Offices of the DLSAs located at district court premises or visit the NSLSA office on the top floor of the NPA Building, DC Office Compound, Kohima.
