Nagaland is set to host the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) from April 13 to 16 in Kohima, marking the first time a national sports federation will hold its AGM in the state.
Announcing this at a press conference, AFI Associate Vice-President and Nagaland Athletics Association President Abu Metha described the event as a historic milestone and a reflection of the region’s growing presence in athletics. The AGM will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio.
The main sessions of the AGM are scheduled for April 14 and 15, bringing together delegates from across the country, including sportspersons, administrators and trainers to deliberate on strengthening India’s sporting ecosystem.
“So happy and proud to announce that the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) will be hosted by Nagaland Athletics in our iconic capital city – Kohima,” Metha said in a statement.
“This is a historic milestone, as it will be the first-ever AGM of a national sports federation to be held in Nagaland.”
He added that the state looks forward to welcoming delegates from across the country and expressed confidence that the deliberations would help shape decisions impacting future generations of Indian athletics.
“We are grateful to Athletics Federation of India for its vision of inclusivity and national integration, and are confident that the deliberations in Kohima will shape decisions that positively impact generations to come,” Metha added.
Governor, Abu Metha discuss sports development and investment in Nagaland
Nagaland Governor Nand Kishor Yadav on Tuesday held discussions with Abu Metha at Lok Bhavan in Kohima, focusing on sports development and investment opportunities in the state.
According to a statement shared on X by the Governor’s office, Metha, Advisor to the Chief Minister and Chairman of the Investment & Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN), called on the Governor and discussed key areas related to sports infrastructure, technology integration and nurturing young talent in Nagaland.
“They also deliberated on avenues for enhancing investment in the state, aimed at promoting economic growth and creating opportunities for sustainable development,” the statement said.
In a post on X, Metha said he briefed the Governor on the upcoming Annual General Meeting of the Athletics Federation of India to be hosted in Nagaland, along with ongoing sports initiatives and IDAN’s activities in the state.
“Called on the Hon’ble Governor of Nagaland, Shri Nand Kishor Yadav Ji – a leader with vast experience and deep insight,” Metha said.
He added that they had a meaningful discussion on development and investment, and expressed gratitude for the Governor’s guidance, wishing him a successful tenure and assuring full cooperation towards shared development goals.
