Sovima, 31 January (MTNews): Nagaland Under-23 emerged victorious over Manipur Under-23 by a staggering margin of 299 runs in the ongoing Col. CK Nayudu Trophy 2023-2024.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Nagaland set the stage for their win with a formidable performance. Captain Hem showcased leadership with a committed century, scoring 114 runs off 237 balls. Mughavi Sumi contributed significantly with 59 runs, leading Nagaland to a total of 284 runs in 95.4 overs, losing all wickets. Manipur’s Romario and Kiran Laishram stood out by securing 4 wickets each.

Manipur, in response, faced a challenging first innings, getting bundled out for 189 runs in 60.2 overs. Nagaland’s bowlers Neizekho and Hem wreaked havoc, claiming 5 and 4 wickets respectively. Ulenyai Khwairakpam, Manipur’s captain, displayed resilience with a notable score of 86 runs off 130 balls.

Undeterred, Nagaland continued their dominance in the second innings, posting an imposing total of 365 runs in 96 overs. Mughavi Sumi and Sujal Prasad led the charge with centuries, scoring 101 runs off 219 balls and a quick-fire 111 runs off 74 balls, respectively. Kiran Laishram emerged as the top performer for Manipur, securing 5 wickets.

Facing a daunting target of 461 runs for victory, Manipur struggled against Nagaland’s bowling prowess, ultimately getting bowled out for 161 runs in 86.3 overs. Tohuka led the bowling attack with a 5-wicket haul, and Suresh was the sole contributor for Manipur U-23 with 49 runs.

Nagaland will next take on Meghalaya from 4th-7th February 2024 at MCA Ground, Polo Ground, Shillong.
