The Department of Sociology, Nagaland University, in association with the Central Vigilance Commission of India, organized a one-day workshop as part of the observance of Vigilance Awareness Week 2025 on 28 October at Lumami on the theme “Vigilance: Our Shared Responsibility.”
The session commenced with a welcome address by Prof Athungo Ovung, Dept. of Sociology, NU who also chaired the workshop. Prof Ovung extended a warm welcome to participants and resource person, while highlighting the importance of integrity and transparency in the journey of entrepreneurship. The welcome address was followed by a brief round of introductions from the participants, fostering a sense of engagement and collegiality.
In his introductory address, Dr Sandeep Gupta, Convenor of the Workshop outlined the objectives of the program and underscored the significance of ethical practices in business and community-based enterprises. He emphasized that the primary aim of the workshop was to inspire positive changes in business practices by promoting honesty, transparency, and ethical decision-making.
The resource person, Prof Zarennthung Ezung from the Department of Economics, Nagaland University, delivered an insightful and engaging discussion on the topic “Ethical Business Practice among Entrepreneurs and Self Help Groups (SHGs).” He elaborated on the crucial role of ethics in ensuring sustainable business growth, accountability, and community development. Furthermore, Prof Ezung emphasized the need to encourage sustainability and environmentally-friendly practices among entrepreneurs to ensure long-term social and ecological well-being.
The program concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr Pitheli K Jimo from the Department of Sociology, Nagaland University. Dr Jimo expressed sincere gratitude to the Central Vigilance Commission of India, the University authorities, the resource person, participants, and all contributors for their valuable support in making the workshop a success. The Rapporteur was Raja Darang, a research scholar in the Dept of Sociology, Nagaland University.
