Nagaland University, in collaboration with ICAR-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources (ICAR-NBFGR), Lucknow, flagged off a Fisheries Input Distribution Vehicle on July 30 to promote sustainable aquaculture.
The initiative is being implemented under the NEH Component of the CRP Agrobiodiversity Project, focusing on scientific aquaculture, sustainable fisheries development and improved livelihoods through training and essential inputs.
Nagaland University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jagadish K. Patnaik flagged off the vehicle carrying inputs for 30 fish farmers from Japu Village, Mangkolemba. The materials include grower and finisher fish feed, agricultural-grade lime, HDPE pipes, pond protection and harvesting nets, insulated thermocol ice boxes, weighing scales, shovels, spades and other aquaculture tools.
The inputs are expected to support pond preparation, water quality management, fish growth, harvesting and post-harvest handling. The programme is led by ICAR-NBFGR scientist and Principal Investigator Dr. Aditya Kumar, with approval from Director Dr. Kajal Chakraborty. It includes technical lectures, practical demonstrations and stakeholder interaction.
The farmers’ interaction and input distribution was scheduled at Japu Village on July 31, followed by technical sessions at Nagaland University on August 1.
The initiative seeks to integrate scientific innovations with indigenous knowledge to strengthen livelihoods, food security and sustainable aquaculture in Nagaland and the Northeast.
