“No case of ragging reported since institution’s establishment”

Nagaland University observes anti-ragging week

Nagaland University hosted an event as part of its Anti-Ragging Week, themed “Unite Against Ragging,” at the I Ihoshe Kinimi Hall, Lumami, on August 16, 2024. The event featured Prof Jagadish Kumar Patnaik, Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University, as the Chief Guest.

Prof Patnaik noted that no cases of ragging have been reported since the institution’s establishment. This reflects Nagaland University’s commitment to maintaining a safe environment for its students, he said. He welcomed the new students, assuring them that their time at the university will be positive and rewarding.

The program included contributions from several individuals. Prof Wangshimenla, Dean of Student Welfare and Chairman of the Anti-Ragging Committee, provided an overview of the week’s activities. The event began with a welcome address by Dr Gyati Yam, Assistant Professor in the Department of Forestry and Convenor. Attendees heard two lectures on anti-ragging from Dr Kuldeep Singh Panwar, Associate Professor in the Department of Law, and Dr Ramita Sougrakpam, Assistant Professor in the Department of Zoology.

The week also featured competitions aimed at promoting awareness and engagement, with winners announced by Dr Pitheli K Jimo, Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology. The event was chaired by Repakaba Tzudir, a university student, and concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr Sungkum Jamir, Medical Officer and Committee Member.
