NUSU-L and NURSF-L support University’s action against professor

The Nagaland University Students’ Union, Lumami (NUSU-L), and the Nagaland University Research Scholars’ Forum, Lumami (NURSF-L), have issued a statement endorsing the disciplinary action taken by the University against Professor Sarat Chandra Yenisetti of the Department of Zoology, who has been found guilty of severe misconduct, including sexual harassment, physical assault, and violation of the Code of Professional Ethics.

Professor Sarat Chandra Yenisetti was arrested in November 2024 for allegedly assaulting a female Assistant Professor from the same department. He was placed under suspension on November 26, 2024, following the incident.

According to the student bodies, “The Inquiry Officer, vide letter No. NU/KCM//Eng/2025 dated 30.04.2025, submitted a report holding Professor Sarat Chandra Yenisetti guilty on all articles of charges.” Following this, the University’s Executive Council, in its meeting held on June 2, 2025, resolved to impose a major penalty of Compulsory Retirement with admissible benefits, effective from the date of suspension — “i.e., 26.11.2024, as per Statute No. 28(2) of Nagaland University.”

In their joint statement, NUSU-L and NURSF-L have “accepted and endorsed the decision of the University Authority,” making it clear that “any deviation from the Office Order dated 02.06.2025 will be at the individual’s own risk, cost, and consequence.”

The student bodies issued a stern warning: “We strongly condemn any form of misconduct and emphasize that such offenders will not be tolerated in the University.” They further stated, “We warn any individual’s, regardless of designation, that any untoward misconduct will lead to severe consequences, including removal from the premises.”

Reaffirming their commitment to campus safety, the students declared: “We are committed to maintaining a safe and respectful environment within the University and will take all necessary measures to prevent such incidents in the future.”
