The Central Library of Nagaland University organised a training programme on the ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI) in research, attended by 120 PhD research scholars.
Held under the NU Start-Up Project (2024–26), the programme was titled “Ethical Adoption of AI Tools in Research: Navigating Books, Journals and Scholarly Communication.”
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jagadish K. Patnaik, who attended as chief guest, highlighted the convenience offered by AI tools while stressing the ethical challenges surrounding their use. He said research supervisors and scholars must learn to use AI effectively and exercise sound judgement in its application.
Deputy Librarian Dr. T. Temjen cautioned scholars against inaccurate AI-generated responses and fabricated citations.
The technical session, led by Dr. Chanlang Ki Bareh, Assistant Librarian and principal investigator of the project, featured demonstrations of research tools, including ChatGPT, Gemini, SciSpace, Elicit, Litmaps, Research Rabbit and QuillBot.
Dr. Bareh cautioned against fake citations, uploading sensitive or unpublished material to public AI tools, and excessive dependence on AI for interpreting research findings. He also stressed responsible use and disclosure of AI assistance.
Certificates were presented to all 120 participants.
