A major operation for the pre-trial destruction of narcotic drugs took place at the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) dumping ground in Burma Camp on December 5, 2024. The destruction, which was approved by the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Dimapur, followed the guidelines set forth by the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. A total of 79 cases under the NDPS Act had been registered across nine police stations, as reported by the Commissioner of Police (CP), Dimapur.

On December 4, 2024, the District Drug Disposal Committee of Dimapur, headed by Commissioner of Police Dimapur, Kevithuto Sophie, IPS, conducted a physical verification of the narcotic drugs. The committee included members from the SP (Crime), DCP of Dimapur, Chumoukedima, and Niuland. The drugs were then destroyed at the DMC dumping ground in the presence of district officials from Dimapur, Chumoukedima, and Niuland.

The total approximate monetary value of the destroyed narcotic substances was estimated at Rs. 34,82,87,425. Among the destroyed drugs were 9 kgs 741.15 grams of brown sugar, Shanflower, and heroin, 16,537 SP capsules and Nitrosen tablets, 5 kgs of crystal meth, 2 kgs 450 grams of opium, 17,269 bottles of cough syrup, 2,600 kgs of opium straw, and 1,34,203 WY tablets/Simplex-e.
