A total of 291 matters and disputes were settled today during the 1st Quarterly National Lok Adalat across Nagaland, out of 427 cases that were taken up for resolution. Organized under the aegis of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authorities (NSLSA), the event saw 11 sitting benches set up by the District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) at district court premises. The total settlement amount for the cases resolved was Rs 3,87,35,490.

The matters taken up were primarily at the pre-litigation and pending stages, including bank recovery cases, loans, telephone bills, and Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) cases. The decisions arrived at by the presiding officers, who are judicial officers, and conciliators, who are learned advocates, were binding and amicably settled by both parties involved.

Highlights from districts across Nagaland

· Longleng District: The Longleng DLSA successfully held the National Lok Adalat at the district court, settling 6 bank recovery cases for a total amount of Rs 153,185. Chief Judicial Magistrate cum Secretary LDLSA Kumdilong Kessen (NJS) presided over the proceedings, with SBI bank staff, Retainer Lawyer Adv. Mane Phom, Panel Lawyer Panglang Y Phom, and Panel Lawyer Monyei Phom acting as conciliators.

· Mokokchung District: Mokokchung DLSA conducted its 1st Quarterly National Lok Adalat at the District Court Complex. The Lok Adalat addressed 19 bank recovery cases, all of which were successfully settled, totaling Rs 15,05,340. The proceedings were presided over by Julian Sitlhou, Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) cum Secretary, Mokokchung DLSA, along with Retainer Lawyer Watitemjen and Panel Lawyers from the Mokokchung DLSA as conciliators.

· Wokha District: The Wokha DLSA conducted its 1st Quarterly National Lok Adalat, presided over by Cheliam Khiamniungan, JMFC/Secretary, Wokha DLSA. A total of 11 pre-litigation bank recovery cases were taken up and disposed of, resulting in a total settlement amount of Rs 16,40,839.

· Zunheboto District: Zunheboto DLSA conducted the 1st Quarterly National Lok Adalat at the District Court Complex. District & Sessions Judge cum Chairman ZDLSA Phuleto Yeptho (NJS) presided over the proceedings, with conciliators Easter H Yepthomi and Inolito K Sumi. A total of 5 pre-litigation bank recovery cases were taken up, with 2 cases settled for a total amount of Rs 33,24,719.

· Phek District: Phek DLSA held its 1st Quarterly National Lok Adalat, presided over by Tucuno Vamuzo, NJS, District & Session Judge cum Chairperson Phek DLSA. A total of 29 pre-litigation bank recovery cases were taken up, resulting in settlements amounting to Rs 22,90,243.

· Kohima District: Kohima DLSA held its 1st Quarterly National Lok Adalat for 2025 at the District Court Complex. A total of 504 pre-litigation bank recovery cases, 250 telephone bill recovery cases, and 3 pending MS cases were presented. Out of these, 5 telephone bill recovery cases and 35 bank recovery cases were resolved, with a total settlement of Rs 46,51,504.

· Dimapur District: Dimapur DLSA conducted its 1st National Lok Adalat at the District Court Complex. A total of 116 cases were taken up, with 64 cases successfully disposed of, resulting in a total settlement amount of Rs 1,44,08,989.

· Kiphire District: Kiphire DLSA organized its 1st Lok Adalat at the District Court Complex. A total of 18 pre-litigation bank loan cases were addressed, and 15 cases were settled, amounting to Rs 31,65,604.

· Mon District: Mon DLSA organized the National Lok Adalat at the District Court. A total of 35 pre-litigation bank recovery cases were taken up, out of which 31 were successfully settled, with a total outstanding amount of Rs 1,12,83,474, resulting in a settlement of Rs 52,14,775.

· Tuensang District: Tuensang DLSA conducted its 1st Quarterly National Lok Adalat at the SBI Main Branch, with 33 bank recovery cases taken up. 7 cases were resolved, totaling Rs 4,51,853.

· Peren District: Peren DLSA successfully organized the National Lok Adalat at the State Bank of India, Jalukie. A total of 110 pre-litigation cases were addressed, with 67 cases settled, amounting to Rs 19,15,239.
