The Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) has issued a set of precautionary measures to all registered schools in the state in view of the prevailing hot weather conditions, particularly in the foothill and plain areas of Nagaland.

In a circular issued to all heads of registered institutions, the Board has directed schools to take appropriate steps to safeguard the health and well-being of students and staff during this period. The measures are to be implemented with immediate effect and remain in place until further notice.

According to the Board, all classrooms must be equipped with functional fans and schools are encouraged to arrange for backup power supply or alternative cooling arrangements such as coolers or battery-operated fans in case of electricity outages.

Schools have also been instructed to ensure sufficient availability of clean and cool drinking water at multiple accessible points within the school premises throughout the day.

Morning assemblies are to be conducted indoors or through classroom announcements. The Board has strictly advised against holding outdoor assemblies to avoid exposing students to direct heat.

Staff have been asked to actively monitor students during recess and breaks for any signs of heat stress or exhaustion, and to provide immediate medical assistance if needed.

The Board also stated that schools may consider relaxing uniform guidelines to allow lighter and more breathable clothing, though this is optional and left to the discretion of the school authorities.

Additionally, teachers are encouraged to sensitize students on the importance of staying hydrated, avoiding physical exertion under the sun, and recognizing early symptoms of heat-related illnesses.
