Kohima, 26 April (MTNews): The Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) has announced the results for the Class 10th (HSLC) and Class 12th (HSSLC) examinations for the year 2024, revealing a familiar trend of girls outperforming boys.

In the HSLC 2024 exams, girls have once again surpassed boys, with a pass percentage of 51.92%, while boys achieved 49.79%. The number of girls passing the HSLC is 8,455, while that of the boys stood at 7,133. Among the 22,136 candidates who appeared for the HSLC, 15,588 candidates successfully passed, marking a qualified percentage of 71.87%. Notably, out of the top 20 candidates, 54 are girls, indicating their dominance in academic excellence.

However, compared to the previous year, both government and private schools witnessed a slight decrease in the overall pass percentage. Government schools recorded a pass percentage of 48.55%, down from 49.13% in 2023, while private schools’ pass percentage dropped to 86.77% from 91.15% in 2023.

The pass percentages across different streams are as follows: 83.16% in Arts, 87.67% in Commerce, and 80.88% in Science. Notably, girls have performed exceptionally well in all streams, with higher pass percentages compared to boys.

In the Arts Stream, the pass percentage of girl students stands at 86.18 percent, while 79.5 percent of boy students passed the exam. For Commerce, the pass percentage for girls is 89.06 percent, and for boys, it is 86.7 percent, while in the Science stream, the pass percentage for girls is 83.96 percent, and for boys, it is 76.82 percent.

The top performers in the HSSLC examinations include Satyam Kumar Jaiswal from Holy Cross Hr Sec School, Dimapur, who secured 98.40% in Commerce stream, Keletsole Mekro Dainty Buds from Kohima, with 97.40% in Arts stream, and Narola Imsong from Queen Mary Hr Sec School, Mokokchung, achieving 96.20% in Science stream. For the HSLC examination, Mhachilo Yanthan from Christian Hr.Sec.School, Dimapur, emerged as the topper with an impressive score of 98.83%.

In response to the results, Chief Minister Rio extended his congratulations through a tweet to all successful candidates, acknowledging their hard work and dedication. He also encouraged those who did not pass to persevere and continue striving for success.

NBSE informs on Compartmental and Improvement Examination

The Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) has informed that both the HSLC and HSSLC Compartmental Examinations and Improvement Examinations will be conducted in June 2024. NBSE stated that the eligibility criteria for the HSLC and HSSLC 2024 Compartmental Examination and Improvement of Performance have been raised from 3 to 4 subjects in the greater interest of the students. The Board informed that eligible compartmental candidates will be given 2 chances to clear the subjects in which they need improvement or have failed.

A qualified or passed candidate of the HSLC and HSSLC Examinations 2024 who desires to improve their performance is also eligible to apply for the improvement examination in 4 or fewer subjects. NBSE mentioned that a candidate who qualified in the main HSLC and HSSLC examinations 2024 but secured needs improvement or failed marks is also eligible to sit for the HSLC or HSSLC Improvement Examination.

NBSE added that candidates who want to appear in these two examinations must apply online through the NBSE portal from the 10th to the 18th of May 2024.

Kohima district emerges as top performer among government schools

Kohima district emerged as the top performer among government schools, achieving a remarkable 67 percent pass rate in the 2024 HSLC examination. Tseminyu and Phek districts followed closely, securing pass rates of 61 percent and 60 percent, respectively. Shamator district is at the bottom with a 3 percent pass rate.

In respect to private schools, Tseminyu district is at the top with a pass percentage of 93 percent, followed by Kohima and Mokokchung at 90 percent. Among the 22 candidates under the category of Children with Special Needs, 12 of them qualified in the examination. They appeared for the HSLC examination with exceptions such as extra time, exemption from examination fees, scribe, and use of a laptop, etc.

Meanwhile, there are three toppers from Government Higher Secondary Schools in the Merit list of the HSSLC Examination 2024 in the Arts stream from Mayangnokcha Government Hr. Sec. School, Mokokchung, Government Hr. Sec. School, Chumoukedima, and Bautüng Government Hr. Sec. School, Longleng, in Rank 5(a), Rank 5(c), and Rank 8, respectively.

NBSE results show narrowing gender gap in academic performance
An analysis of the High School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) exam results has revealed a narrowing of the gender gap in academic performance across various streams in Nagaland.

In the Arts stream, 77.59% of male students passed the exam from Government Schools, while the pass percentage for female students stood at 82.98%. The gap was even smaller in private schools, where 84.20% of male students and 90.25% of female students cleared the exams.

The Commerce stream showed a more balanced performance, with 91.67% of male students and 91.11% of female students passing from Government Schools. In private schools, the pass percentage was 88.68% for male students and 90.35% for female students.

The Science stream also witnessed a significant reduction in the gender disparity. While 60.90% of male students passed from Government Schools, the figure for female students was 77.42%. In private schools, 81.81% of male students and 86.02% of female students cleared the exams.

The trend was also observed in the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) exams, where the pass percentage for male students in government schools was 46.07%, while for female students, it stood at 50.35%. In private schools, the gap was more pronounced, with 84.33% of male students and 89.02% of female students passing the exams.

The mark sheets and mark sheet-cum-pass certificates will be available for collection by the concerned Centre Superintendents from 3rd to 6th May 2024. Candidates will need to produce their original admit cards at the time of collection.

Candidates who wish to apply for re-scrutiny of their answer scripts can do so online at www.nbsenl.edu.in within 15 days of the result declaration, i.e., on or before May 11th, 2024. The prescribed fee of ₹500 per subject will need to be paid online through the portal.

The NBSE has urged all students and schools to follow the prescribed guidelines and timelines for the collection of mark sheets and re-scrutiny applications. The board has also congratulated all the successful candidates and wished them the best for their future endeavors.

AN OVERVIEW OF THE RESULTS OF HSLC & HSSLC EXAMINATIONS 2024

The HSLC Examination 2024 commenced from 13th February 2024 and concluded on 23rd February 2024 and the HSSLC Examination 2024 commenced from 12th February 2024 and concluded on 6th March 2024. In HSLC, a total of 22136 candidates were enrolled and in the HSSLC a total of 17911 were enrolled for the examination.

  1.        HSLC Examination 2024:

Out of 22136 candidates, a total of 15588 candidates qualified the examination with a qualified percentage of 71.87%.

The overall pass percentage for the last 5(five) years are as follows:

The girls have done better with 8455 (51.92%) girls qualifying and 7133 (49.79%) boys qualifying the examination. In the Top 20 list, there are 77 candidates out of which 23 are boys and the rest 54 are girls.

In terms of district wise performance for government schools, Kohima district topped the table with a percentage of 67% followed by Tseminyu and Phek districts at 61% and 60%. Shamator district is at the bottom with 3%.

In respect of private schools, Tseminyu district is at the top with a percentage of 93% followed by Kohima and Mokokchung at 90%.

22 candidates under the category of Children with Special Needs appeared the examination with various concessions like extra time, exemption of examination fees, scribe, use of laptop, etc. 12 of them qualified the examination.

The performance of boys and girls streamwise in terms of pass percentage is:

The overall pass percentage in Arts stream is 83.16%, Commerce stream is 87.67% and Science stream is 80.88%.

It is heartening to mention that there are 3 toppers from Government Higher Secondary Schools in the Merit list at the HSSLC Examination 2024 in Arts stream from Mayangnokcha Govt. Hr. Sec. School, Mokokchung, Govt. Hr. Sec. School, Chumoukedima and Bautüng Govt. Hr. Sec. School, Longleng in Rank 5(a), Rank 5(c) and Rank 8 respectively.

The number of boys and girls in the top 10 list stream-wise is:

            In Children with Special Needs (CWSN) category, 14 candidates applied for exemptions and appeared the examination. Out of 14 candidates, 10 of them passed, 4 in    1st Division and 6 in 2nd Division.

  1. HSLC and HSSLC Compartmental Examination and Improvement of Performance:

The National Credit Framework (NCrF) as envisioned in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, emphasizes the adoption of Credit Transfer Policy at various stages of education. Therefore, keeping this principle in mind, the eligibility criteria for the HSLC and HSSLC 2024 Compartmental Examination and Improvement of Performance has been raised from 3(three) to 4(four) subjects in the greater interests of the students. Eligible Compartmental candidates are given 2(two) chances to clear the needs improvement/failed subjects.

As such, candidates failing in 4(four) or less subjects are eligible to apply and sit for the HSLC and HSSLC Compartmental Examination.

A qualified/passed candidate of HSLC and HSSLC Examination 2024 and desirous of improving his/her performance is eligible to apply for the improvement examination in 4(four) or less subjects. A candidate who qualified/passed the main HSLC and HSSLC examination 2024 but secured needs improvement/failed marks is also eligible to sit for the HSLC /HSSLC Improvement examination.

Both the HSLC and HSSLC Compartmental Examination and Improvement Examination shall be conducted in June 2024.

Candidates desirous of appearing these two examinations must apply online through the NBSE portal from 10th to 18th May 2024.

  1. Improvement examination in 1(one) subject.

Provision for candidates who qualified at the HSLC Examination but secured Needs Improvement in one subject will be given the opportunity to reappear in the Needs Improvement subject at the immediate examination can apply for courses, fulfill certain recruitment criteria and employment where they need to pass in all the subject they have opted.

  1. Issue of Migration Certificate

Provision to download Migration Certificate will be made available at the NBSE portal www.nbsenl.edu.in. The Migration Certificate will be digitally signed.

However, those candidates who desire to avail the hard copy of the Migration Certificate can come to the Board’s office during office hours once they receive their original marksheets.
