Mokokchung, January 12 (MTNews): The ongoing Combined Annual training Camp (CATC) of 25 Naga Bn NCC, Mokokchung witnessed at Blood Donation Drive by the participating NCC Cadets. A number of cadets volunteered to donate blood and became ‘Blood Heroes’.
A medical team from the Blood Centre, IMDH, Mokokchung headed by Dr H Tsipongchem Sangtam carried out blood group testing of the cadets and handed out their blood group cards. They were also screened for body vitals and communicable diseases and donors were finally chosen as per the blood groups that are frequently required at the District Hospital, Mokokchung as well as the storage capacity available in the blood centre. A total of 21 units of blood were drawn from the donors.
Speaking on the occasion, the Camp Commandant Col CST Swamy expressed the commitment of NCC towards social causes and vowed to make blood donation popular among the eligible NCC Cadets. He also informed that 25 Naga Bn NCC is in consultation with the Blood Centre, Mokokchung and the Mokokchung Voluntary Blood Donors Association to establish an ‘NCC Blood Donors Platoon’ which will be a repository and facilitator of voluntary blood donation by NCC Cadets in all the 11 Districts in the area of responsibility (AOR).
The Camp culminated in a colorful cultural program wherein cadets performed tribal dances, songs and patriotic numbers. Lenen Jamir, the famous Naga Singer made a surprise appearance in the event and performed the famous Ao song ‘Ni na meimer’ on popular demand from the cadets.
A prize distribution ceremony was organized in the Fazl Ali College Grounds that was followed by a Campfire. SUO Sentiyangla Imsong and Sgt Chubamayang, both of Fazl Ali College, were awarded the ‘Overall Best Cadet’ trophies in the boys and girls categories. A number of prizes to the winners and runners up in drill, shooting, sports activities and cultural events were also distributed during the event.
