The Nagaland Education Project – The Lighthouse – NECTAR convened a one-day “Orientation and Discussion” workshop at the Administrative Training Institute (ATI), Kohima, on April 29. The event aimed to facilitate coordination and knowledge sharing among sister departments under the Department of School Education and SCERT, focusing on the key initiatives and expected outcomes of NECTAR’s “Strengthening Governance and Capacity Building” component.

Shashank Pratap Singh, IAS, Principal Director, Directorate of School Education, delivered the welcome address. He underscored the shared commitment to improving the quality of education in Nagaland and highlighted that the governance and capacity-building component is the largest under NECTAR in terms of inter-departmental collaboration. The component addresses the training and upskilling of teachers, school leaders, and education managers, while also emphasizing community engagement, improved governance, and career development within the education system. Singh called on all stakeholders to participate actively and sustain best practices and reforms introduced under the initiative.

Commissioner & Secretary for School Education and SCERT, Kevileno Angami, delivered the keynote address. She described the workshop as a long-overdue gathering, stressing the need for all departments to work in synergy to achieve the shared vision of holistic school development and quality education. Angami urged sister departments to complement rather than duplicate each other’s efforts, emphasizing that effective collaboration is essential to delivering meaningful educational outcomes for children.

The workshop featured presentations on NECTAR’s core initiatives, including overviews of the School Leadership Development Programme (SLDP) and School Review and Improvement Programme (SRIP), discussions on career pathways, revision of SMC/SMDC guidelines, and exam reforms. Group discussions and testimonials highlighted progress and sustainability strategies.

The workshop was attended by officials from the Directorate of School Education, SCERT, NBSE, Samagra Shiksha, and NECTAR.
