The Nagaland Foothill Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC) has constituted a new executive team following the recommendations of a three-member Search Committee headed by Chingden Konyak as Convenor, with Anilo Rengma as Member Secretary and Renthungo Kikon as Member.

The executive reshuffle was ratified during an emergency meeting held in Dimapur on May 9, 2025. The house unanimously adopted the committee’s recommendations, and the following individuals were appointed to the new NFHRCC executive team: Convenor – Supu Jamir; Co-Convenor –K Himahito Chishi; General Secretary – Chenithung Humtsoe; Asst General Secretary – Yanger Angh; Publicity & Information Secretary – Iteichu Zeliang; and Finance Secretary – K Mar Lemtur.

In addition to the new executive appointments, the NFHRCC also passed several important resolutions: The committee “warmly welcomed the two [2] Nagaland Tribal communities to the NFHRCC fraternity, namely a. Tikhir Naga & b. Indigenous Nagaland Garo Community.”

The committee reaffirmed its commitment to the Foothills Road Project, stating that “the Foothills road project was being conceptualized by the NFHRCC in 2013,” and vowed to continue advocating for the Nagaland Historical Road. The committee emphasized that it would “strengthen the hands of the concerned Department with a mission and vision of a transparent, inclusive and quality assurance of works as stakeholders and a watchdog for the people as far as the Nagaland Foothills Road Project ( Trans Nagaland Expressway) from Tizit to Khelma is concerned.

The resolution further highlighted that “any capricious deviation from the original concept and alignment of the Peoples’ Road from any quarter will be considered ‘betrayal’ and cannot be tolerated to any extent.”

A joint consultative meeting was held in Dimapur with the Changpang Area Committee on Foothills Road Project (CAFHRCC) and aggrieved villages from the Bhandari and Changpang Circles, including Sumi villages in Baghty Division, Wokha District. In this meeting, the committee resolved that “the definition of the Foothills Road Project Original alignments adopted in 2013 by the NFHRCC & NPWD, R&B endorsed by the 10 Nagaland Tribal HOHOs shall be upheld without any preconceptions.”

Further, the NFHRCC reiterated its “fullest cooperation to the Lotha HOHO’s resolutions & letter on NFHR alignments dated June 4th 2024 to the Chief Engineer, NPWD, R&B,” and also backed the “joint survey conducted on minor need-based re-alignment by the Concerned Department, the NFHRCC, and Changpang Area Committee on Foothills Road Project.”

The aggrieved villages, including those from Bhandari and Changpang Circles, also pledged “unflagging support to the NFHRCC,” recognizing its role in advocating for an inclusive Nagaland Peoples’ Road since 2013 until the Foothills Road Project becomes a reality.
