Gastrochilus pseudocalceolaris, a new species of orchid discovered by scientists from the Central National Herbarium, Howrah was collected from Yingyushang Mountain in the Longleng district of Nagaland by Kohima Science College researchers. According to the report, the species was collected on April 7, 2022.

Avishek Bhattacharjee of the Central National Herbarium in Howrah discovered and co-published the new orchid species with researchers from Kohima Science College and Dhanamanjuri University in Imphal.

 

Bhattacharjee along with Santanu Dey of the Department of Botany, Kohima Science College, Jotsoma; Moaakum of the Department of Botany, Kohima Science College, Jotsoma; Limamanen Phom of the Department of Zoology, Sao Chang College, Tuensang; and Kazhuhrii Eshuo of the Department of Botany, Dhanamanjuri University, Imphal West contributed to the discovery.

 

According to the study, the species is morphologically related to G. calceolaris, but differs in having much shorter stems and labellum-epichile without long, papillose hairs on its adaxial surface, and epichile with short erose margins.
