Niuland, 14 September: A Flat Type Quarter (Type-C) for administrative officers was inaugurated at Niuland District Headquarters on Monday by Minister for Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) and Cooperation Jacob Zhimomi in the presence of Advisor to Civil Administration Works Division (CAWD) Kudecho Khamo.
Addressing the inaugural programme, Zhimomi thanked Khamo for his support and guidance to the department and acknowledged Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for making funds available for infrastructure development in newly created districts, including Niuland.
Zhimomi said the government was trying to do justice to all districts within the available resources and described the project as the “best possible output” under the circumstances. He said the building had been completed on time and according to the specifications of the Detailed Project Report, with beautification works to be taken up subsequently.
Speaking on development expectations, Zhimomi called for patience, particularly among young people seeking faster development, and said the government needed to engage with the younger generation and explain the financial and administrative limitations faced by the state.
He also stressed the need for greater cohesion among Naga tribes, saying people should appreciate differences and adapt to one another’s practices. He called for cooperation among political, religious and government institutions to advance development.
Khamo, meanwhile, urged the Sumi community to take the lead in promoting Naga unity, noting that Niuland, inhabited by people from different Naga tribes, could serve as a “mini Nagaland”. He called for collective responsibility in protecting government properties and supporting development initiatives.
Khamo also highlighted the upcoming Deputy Commissioner’s Office Complex at Niuland, which will accommodate various line departments and improve public service delivery.
Deputy Commissioner Niuland T L Kiusumong Tikhir said the quarters addressed a long-standing requirement for administrative officers.
Assistant Engineer, CAWD, Daniel H Lotha said construction began in 2023 and was completed in 2026. The RCC building has 1,417 sq ft per unit and includes water supply, sanitation, rainwater harvesting and electrification facilities. GPS Tech Enterprise, represented by Isaac Zhimo, executed the construction work.
