Mokokchung, 20 July (MTNews): The Delhi Association of Manipur Muslim Students (DAMMS) has vehemently condemned the heinous incident that occurred on 4 May in Manipur, stating that the incident “has led us all down and hang our heads in shame.”
DAMMS expressed their deep concern over the Manipur police and the state government’s apparent inability to control the situation effectively. The organization raised a significant question mark on the capability of the authorities in handling the ongoing violence since its outbreak. According to DAMMS, the recent incident serves as a stark validation of their “incompatibility and their perceived collusion with radical organizations” from the majority community involved in the violence.
“Since the incident reportedly happened after the victims were snatched by a mob from police custody,” DAMMS said that it “vividly implies that there was no law and no one to ensure law and order.” DAMMS further highlighted that the state government and its machinery appeared to be on the verge of collapse and asserted that there is “no position to restore peace in Manipur soon unless a powerful third party intervenes.”
In addition to the known incidents, DAMMS also called for immediate judicial inquiries into any similar incidents that may not have gained widespread public attention, whether reported or unreported. The Association further demanded the Central government to intervene immediately and impose President’s Rule in Manipur.
DAMMS further called upon all individuals, irrespective of ethnicities, to unite against such heinous crimes, emphasizing the need for sanity and humane spirit in condemning and exposing those responsible for perpetrating such violence, even if they hold higher authoritative positions.
The organization demanded that all hate and rumor mongers, leaders of radical organizations, singers, intellectuals, and women’s groups involved in such acts of violence should be booked and punished as per the law.
Meanwhile, for those found guilty of committing such appalling crimes, DAMMS firmly believed that nothing less than the highest form of capital punishment is acceptable.
