Noklak, 2 May (MTNews): The Pathso Range Students’ Union (PRSU), apex body of students’ community within the Panso administrative circle of Noklak carried out visits to institutions, both government and private, within its area from 26 April to 1 May. The team visited all the schools in the area totaling 11, Sub-centers at Yokao, Tsuwao, Lengnyu and Kingnyu, and government offices at Panso headquarters, to assess the condition and functioning of the institutions and offices.
PRSU stated in a press release that during the visit, the team observed many irregularities in the functioning of the institutions and offices. None of the schools within Panso Sub-division has the required strength of teachers as per the recommendation of the staffing pattern committee, it stated.
“In fact, 9 of the 11 schools have more classrooms in the schools than the teachers,” PRSU said. For instance, at GPS Lengnyu, there are only four teachers for a school with seven classrooms (LKG to 5th Standard). At GPS Kingniu, there are only four teachers for a school with six classrooms (LKG to 4th Standard). At GPS Yokao, there are four primary teachers and a community teacher for a school with six classrooms (LKG to 4th Standard). At GPS Ekhao, there are only 3 teachers, with no appointment of Hindi teacher since the inception of the school. At GHS Panso, there are shortages of subject teachers.
“During the visit, many of the offices were found to be closed without functioning. Absenteeism in duties and rampant practice of keeping substitutes were observed,” PRSU also said. “Many of the staff, especially in the educational institutions, were not performing their duties, to which the union will initiate appropriate course of action,” it cautioned. The PRSU also said that the post of Medical Officer (MO) at PHC Panso lies vacant after the resignation of the incumbent Medical Officer.
“Infrastructurally, the offices and school buildings were in pathetic condition, with exception in one or two. Most of them are old and in dire need of new construction,” PRSU stated.
“Upon such findings, we express deep concern over the state of affairs in the government machinery and institutions. We impress and urge upon the government to prioritize actions to address the highlighted issues,” it appealed.
