Chümoukedima, 16 February (MTNews): Zunheboto district emerged as the overall champions of the Wushu competition held as part of the 3rd Nagaland Olympics & Paralympic Games 2024 at Arena E, Chumoukedima, on Friday.

The competition concluded with Zunheboto securing 3 gold, 4 silver, and 2 bronze medals, totaling 9 medals. Dimapur followed in second place with six medals (3 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze). Mankho T Konyak of Mon district received the Best Fighter Award, and Peren district was recognized as the Best Disciplined Team.

The two-day Wushu competition, organized by the Nagaland Wushu Association as part of the ongoing NOPG 2024 saw participation from 52 contestants, including seven females from various districts.

During the valedictory function, Kudecho Khamo, MLA & Advisor CAWD & Taxes and President of NWA, graced the closing ceremony. In his speech, he encouraged all youths to consider sports as a profession, emphasizing its lucrative prospects. Khamo appreciated the participants, noting the improved sports facilities under the leadership of NOA President and CM Niephiu Rio.
As President of the Nagaland Wushu Association, Khamo assured that despite challenges, the association is committed to nurturing Wushu players in the state.

Abu Metha, Advisor to the Chief Minister, Chairman of IDAN, and Secretary General of the Nagaland Olympic Association, congratulated the association for successfully conducting the event. He highlighted Wushu as a strong pillar for NOA and announced that the best players would represent the state at the Northeast Olympic Games in a month.

Metha acknowledged Wushu’s popularity and emphasized the value of hard work in reaching the highest level in sports. He encouraged participants to strive to represent the state, noting the presence of Wushu Association of India observers during the championship.
