Mokokchung, on day-5 of the ongoing Nagaland Olympic and Paralympic Games (NOPG) 2024, added 9 more medals to its tally as the district won 2 gold, 5 silver, and 2 bronze medals.

The gold medals were secured in Wushu and wrestling, while the silver medals were earned in the fields of wrestling, Wushu, and the men’s 4×100 M relay race. Additionally, bronze medals were achieved in women’s basketball and archery.

Meanwhile, Kohima district continued its lead with the addition of 20 more medals to its kitty, including 12 gold, 3 silver, and 5 bronze, bringing their total medal tally to 54. Dimapur remained second in the table, followed by Phek and Peren.

On Friday, Phek district secured a haul of 10 bronze medals, along with 6 silver and a gold, retaining the third place (43 medals) in the medal tally. Wokha district lags at the bottom of the medal tally, yet to win a gold medal, even though it has earned 4 silver and 10 bronze medals.

Zunheboto district saw significant gains on day-5 of the games, adding a tally of 9 medals, all of which were won in the Wushu competition, after being at the bottom of the medal tally on day-4 with zero medals.


Meanwhile, the closing function of NOPG 2024 will be held at the Regional Centre for Sporting Excellence, Sovima, Chümoukedima district, on 17 February at 6:00 pm, with the Governor of Nagaland, La. Ganesan, as the special guest and Deputy CM TR Zeliang as the honored guest.
