In a significant development, the NorthEast Frontier Railway has announced a major breakthrough in the construction of tunnels and bridges as part of the new line project connecting Dhansiri to Zubza, with the aim to link Kohima, the capital city of Nagaland, through a Broad Gauge (BG) rail service.


The tunnel in focus, Tunnel no. 1, a structure stretching approximately 4 kilometers in length, was successfully completed on the 18th of October, 2023. This achievement marks a pivotal step in the Capital Connectivity Project, designed to provide the hilly state of Nagaland with all-weather rail connectivity.

“Breakthrough of the Tunnel no. 1 which is a major tunnel of about 4 km length was achieved on 18th October, 2023. This tunnel is being constructed under the Capital connectivity project to connect Kohima, the capital of Nagaland,” the Northeast Frontier Railway tweeted.
