The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) on Thursday voiced strong objection to the State Government’s decision to issue a Transfer and Posting Order Notification on Palm Sunday, April 13, 2025, calling it a deeply insensitive move that disregards the religious sentiments of the Naga people.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary of Nagaland, the NPCC expressed “disappointment and deep anguish” over the timing of the notification, highlighting that Palm Sunday is one of the most significant observances in Christianity, marking the beginning of the Holy Week that leads up to Easter Sunday.

The NPCC stated that Christianity forms the spiritual backbone of the Naga people and holds over a century of influence in the state. It stated that issuing such an official order on a day of such profound spiritual importance is unprecedented and cannot be accepted by the collective conscience of the people of Nagaland.

Further, the NPCC argued that the government’s action violated the principle of secularism enshrined in the Constitution of India and hurt the sentiments of the Christian-majority population of the state. It condemned what it described as the “arrogance” of the State Government and vowed to take every possible step to uphold the dignity of all religions within Nagaland.

Appealing for a “speedy remedial measure,” the NPCC urged the Chief Secretary to recall the original notification and issue a corrigendum on a date other than Palm Sunday “to do justice to the Christians among the Nagas.”
