‘48 Regional MLAs have lost their value and voice’

Mokokchung, April 8 (MTNews): A delegation of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) met the President of Indian National Congress (INC), Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi and apprised her on the changes that are occurring in the “demography” of Nagaland.

A press release from the NPCC President, K Therie informed that Sonia Gandhi was made aware of issues like electoral corruption, fund misappropriation; and delay in the peace process. “UDA Govt has destroyed the social inherent structure. They have compromised the State’s Christian faith. To protect themselves from the NIA, CBI, ED and Justice, they are afraid of BJP. 48 Regional MLAs have lost their value and voice,” Therie said.

The NPCC also pointed to the unopposed election of a BJP nominee to the Rajya Sabha, and said that the voice of Christians and minorities are ignored. “The action of UDA has left us speechless before the suffering Christian brothers and sisters and minorities in the nation,” the NPCC president stated.

NPCC said that corrupt electoral practices in the form of accepting money and material from corrupt leaders in exchange for votes, has developed deep roots in democratic election. “Tolerating extortion, illegal activities and allowing youth to join extortion forces with no objection from customary and administrative guardians has become the norm,” it added.

NPCC also apprised Sonia Gandhi that “all development funds have cuts for Ministers, officers and multiple factions and such actions are accepted.” “They call it commission, contribution and donation. Corrupt ministers and officers are buying hundreds and thousands of acres of land and building multi-storied buildings all over. Tourism and Medical department funds are used to develop personal properties. The entire budget for twenty years has vanished into thin air,” it alleged.

Further, NPCC accused the UDA Government of being responsible for delay in implementation of the two official agreements between the Government of India and the negotiating teams of the NSCN (IM) and the NNPGs. It cautioned that giving another term to UDA will “completely destroy Nagaland and change the demography forever.”

The INC President is reported to have highlighted to “fight back,” while preserving the protections guaranteed under the Indian Constitution given by “Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru and the Gandhi family.” She is also said to have expressed that the “Northeast and especially Nagaland, is close to their hearts and assured to stand with us in the fight.” Gandhi also assured that despite some “unavoidable delay,” the NECCC and NEYCCC would be soon reorganized.

Responding to Congress President’s assurance, the NPCC said it would reach out to all concerned citizens and “share the dangers of perishing of our traditional values and faith.” “We assured her that all is not lost as yet and that there are believers, intelligentsias and senior citizens who continue to uphold the traditional values,” the NPCC informed.

Dr Ajoy Kumar AICC In-Charge of Nagaland assisted the NPCC delegation.
