The National People’s Party (NPP) of the 17 Chizami Assembly Constituency has expressed deep concern over the “pathetic and awful” condition of the Pfutsero to Zhavame road, calling for immediate government intervention to address the issue.
“The Pfutsero-Chillo road which is not only an inter-state connectivity road connecting Nagaland and Manipur but is the lifeline of the four villages/ Town namely, Tsüpfüme, Razeba, Zelome & Zhavame. However, the condition of the road has never been in good shape and has been badly neglected without any sign of either new construction or repair for many years,” the party said in a press statement issued today.
The statement referred to a 2021 initiative where a group of youths from Razeba area under Phek district, frustrated by government’s blind eye, initiated a crowd funding and repaired the 10KM stretch of road from Pfutsero to Zhavame under the theme “My road, my future”. It said the road serves as the only lifeline for a population of more than 8000 people in the area.
The NPP urged the Government to do justice to the people of Razeba area and respond positively before the public could no longer bear the step motherly treatment to the area. It said the public are no longer willing to endure the hardship caused by the state of the road.
“The road condition is so horrible that anyone who travels through this road has to bear untold miseries. The deplorable condition of the roads has greatly affected the economy and life of the people. Despite the huge Agricultural potential that the Razeba area has, the condition of the road is in such a state that the farmers cannot transport the products to the market,” the NPP added.
The statement pointed out that the road’s poor state is hampering farmers from transporting their produce to markets, despite the government’s designation of Zhavame as a ‘Vegetable Village’ and Tsüpfüme as a ‘Ground Apple Village’ and therefore, the Government should be held responsible for the losses caused to the farmers.
“The people of the Razeba area have the basic right to safe and all-weather accessible roads. Therefore, we call upon the state Government to provide an all-weather road to the people of Razeba area at the earliest,” the NPP stated.
