The Nagaland Public Works Department (Roads and Bridges) has issued show cause notices to two construction firms for slow progress in multiple stretches of the Foothills Road project.
According to official notices issued by the Office of the Chief Engineer, NJPWD (R&B), M/s Chabou and Co. and M/s JK Construction have been directed to explain delays in the execution of their respective works.
M/s Chabou and Co. has been issued a show cause notice for the project involving the upgradation of the road from Pangtong VR Junction to Merapani at the Wokha Merapani Road Junction, covering a length of 8.6 kilometres from kilometre 44.000 to kilometre 52.600.
In a separate notice, M/s JK Construction has been served a show cause notice for two road upgradation works under the Foothills Road project. These include the stretch from Governor’s Camp Doyang Bridge to Shantatchu River (Liphi Junction), measuring 15 kilometres, and the stretch from Shantatchu River (Liphi Junction) to Pangtong VR Junction, also measuring 15 kilometres.
The department stated that site inspections were conducted by the Additional Chief Engineer on January 30, 2026, and earlier by the Superintending Engineer of Kohima Circle II on January 17, 2026. Both inspections reported that the progress of work was very slow and not in line with the agreed timelines.
Despite repeated reminders from the department to expedite the work, no noticeable improvement was observed, which was stated to be a violation of the terms and conditions of the contract agreements.
The firms have been asked to submit their explanations within seven days from the date of issue of the notices. The department warned that failure to provide a satisfactory reply within the stipulated period would lead to further action as per the contract provisions without any further reference.
