National Agony Day was observed today, with the NSCN-IM Army Chief, General Ningkhan Shimray, paying tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the Naga cause. The day, marked annually on September 27, is a solemn occasion for Nagas to remember those who fought and died for the freedom and welfare of the Naga Nation.
In his message, General Ningkhan Shimray-MC,VC, Longvibu, Naga Army, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the families of the fallen freedom fighters, acknowledging the supreme sacrifices made for the nation.
“It’s a momentous occasion for remembering those brave sons and daughters and their heroic deeds of valour in the fight for independence and self-determination,” he said.
He also honored those civilians who lost their lives in the hands of the enemies, while courageously contributing to the freedom movement. “Their selfless sacrifices will not go in vain but go down in the annals of the Naga history as Martyrs,” the Longvibu stated.
General Shimray emphasized that death for the sacred cause of the nation is an honor, calling the martyrs “the true sons and daughters of the soil.” He appealed to all conscious Nagas, over-ground or underground, irrespective of social/political affiliations to rise above tribalism.
“Let us do away with the narrow politics of factionalism because our God given mission is national liberation. We need to stand together as one and fight against the adversary at this crucial moment of truth.”
“The blood of the MARTYRS are crying out today for freedom and sovereign Nation for Christ,” he added.
