The National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-IM) has accused the government of India of orchestrating “calculated aggression or premeditated violence against the Tangkhul Nagas in Litan, Ukhrul” on February 8, 2026.

In a statement, the organization said, “The truth speaks loud and clear. February 8, 2026 became the day when the government of India using the Kuki militants started the calculated aggression… The nefarious plots to destroy the Naga political issue to benefit the Kukis were left open for the world to pass judgment.”

Since that incident, NSCN/GPRN claimed, “ominous war clouds gathered over the Naga areas of Manipur. This is the brutal truth and behind this obnoxious scenario is the government of India.” The statement also questioned the conduct of security forces, asking, “Why the ubiquitous AR covered their face with mask during the operation against the Tangkhul Naga civilians? Ethically and morally the AR knows too well that they are on the wrong side of the law, violating the rule of impartiality at time of turmoil of this explosive nature.”

The organization accused security personnel of acting as combatants rather than law enforcers. “Security forces were caught on the wrong foot… This is a blatant violation of the common article 1 of the Geneva Conventions… this is a crime against humanity as AR were caught furnishing logistical, intelligence, or military support to the Kuki militants. This is a ‘clear breach’ of international humanitarian law,” the statement said.

NSCN/GPRN further alleged that Indian forces allowed Kuki militants to operate with impunity. “What is appalling is when the Indian Security Forces are found closely operating against the Nagas armed with operational impunity to the Kuki militant groups, permitting them to target civilians without the fear of prosecution as seen in the Litan burning incident,” it said, calling the conduct a violation of “Article 16 of the International Law Commission on the state responsibility.”

The statement criticized the Kuki groups for manipulating history. “The typical defense tactics of the Kukis to resort to historical revisionism or falsification is open for the world to see as the Kuki intellectuals manipulate or change the narrative of history to suit a modern agenda… The Kukis even claimed that they are one of the lost tribes of Israel. But this claim finds no support from DNA test. Such pathological liars,” it said.

NSCN/GPRN alleged that Kuki militants receive support from the Indian government. “The present scenario in Manipur where Kuki armed groups under SoO (Suspension of Operation)… receive training, weapons, logistical support and financial support from the government of India. In exact term, the state actors protect the Kuki militants from legal prosecution for their crimes against the Nagas… Under the pretext of SoO, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India regularly paid stipend to the Kuki militants (KNO and UPF) without any check on their unruly activities,” it stated.

The statement highlighted that Kuki militant demands include a separate homeland: “The demands of all the Kuki militant groups is for Kuki homeland in the form of union territory or any type of separate administration without anything to share with the Nagas and the Meiteis… The Kuki militant organizations like KNO/KNA, KNF, KRA etc have been operating against the NSCN in collaboration with the Indian Security Forces.”

NSCN/GPRN called on Indian authorities to halt support for Kuki groups, warning that the organization “will defend our people, their properties and land… Indian Security Forces should stop immediately siding with the Kukis and their militant groups.”

On historical distortions, the statement read, “Kukis are by nature pathological liar and often lies to create a false history, gain sympathy, or dramatize events… Ironically, when historical truth is distorted… it triggers counter-reactions as history cannot be built on lies… when truth is respected, it helps builds trust, enables growth and leads to healing.”

The statement concluded with a strong critique of India’s handling of the Naga political issue: “Regarding the government of India in dealing with the Naga political movement, it is glaringly seen that India was found fundamentally lacking a moral compass, unprincipled in their action and policy matters… They were never guided by conscience and not restrained by a sense of guilt or duty… continues to follow the footsteps of the British India government to use the Kuki nomadic tribe to counter the legitimate Naga political rights in the most despicable manner, blatantly using her security forces.”

“After all, truth is the essential foundation of trust, integrity and progress towards any socio-political crisis and solution,” the NSCN/GPRN emphasized, citing the “much hyped Framework Agreement of 3rd August, 2015… signed between the government of India and the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN).”
