The NSCN-IM has issued a “clarion call” for Naga unity and reconciliation, urging Nagas and its “comrades in arms” to come together as “one family, one people, and one nation.”

In a statement issued by its MIP on October 7, the group reiterated its position that the Naga national struggle is for the sovereignty of Nagalim and asserted that “there is neither Eastern Nagalim nor Western Nagalim; there is only Nagalim.”

The NSCN-IM said Nagas must unite for their common cause and described peace and reconciliation among Nagas as essential for their future. It said it would continue to pursue reconciliation among its “brethren” and called on Nagas to come together irrespective of what it described as “imaginary boundaries.”

The statement also criticised forces that, according to the NSCN-IM, oppose unity, reconciliation and a political solution based on historical and political rights. It described such forces as the “mouthpiece and creation of our common enemy,” adding that their “true nature” would be revealed in time.

Calling on Nagas to learn from past mistakes, the group said the Naga people were “the product of our history” but “not its prisoners.” It said the national destiny should not be defined by past mistakes and urged Nagas to move towards what it described as a “glorious tomorrow” as one people.

The NSCN-IM maintained that it would continue to seek peace, but “not through capitulation – peace in freedom.”

The statement concluded with an appeal to all Naga people and “comrades in arms,” irrespective of boundaries, to come together as “one family, one people, and one nation.”
