A people concerned should decide their own destiny because they know the best for themselves. The right to be free or self-determination, which is a gift of God, is a universal right enshrined in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of the Indigenous Peoples(UNDRIP). It is freedom that gives meaning to life. Nagas, being mindful and jealous of what is ours; consciously exist on their own land since ages with freedom. Nagalim was and is never a part of the Union of India or Myanmar or any other powers either by consent or conquest. Since the time of colonial power invasion, Nagas has been continually resisting every occupation force till this day. The declaration of Nagalim Independence on August 14, 1947and Nagalim Plebiscite on May 16, 1951 are a conscious decision of total refusal and denial to be under any foreign occupation. The unconquerable spirits planted within, that Nagas are not Indian or Burmese makes them an invincible revolutionary patriot.
It must be recalled that Nagas did not start the violent confrontation that span more than seven decades. Unquestionably, turning down every possible peaceful approached for resolving the Indo-Naga Political conflict on the part of Nagas, the aggressors had chosen deliberately the path of military might against Nagalim, who simply refused to be a part of the Union of India or Myanmar. Nagalim issue is a case of invasion by Indian state and Myanmar which is an illegal occupation. The continual deployment of countless occupation military force armed with Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA) across length and breadth of Nagalim is highly uncalled for despite ceasefire still in place since August 1, 1997. The past Indian leadership’s arrogance and utterances that ‘Nagas would be crushed within a day’ and ‘I will exterminate the Nagas without any compunction’ still seem to be inherent in nature. And in such a volatile situation, the prospect of peace seems to be a distant cry.
Nagalim can be liberated but only through people’s revolution. The formidable force that can defend and free Nagalim is a revolutionary patriot. It is such a fallacy to think that Nagalim freedom will fall from heaven or occupation force will withdraw on its own accord. In all these years the sovereign existence of Nagalim has been defended unsparingly through the blood, sweats and tears of revolutionary patriots. Their devotion and sacrifice for the Nation is full of glory and honor. Nagalim struggle is a resistance movement against illegal occupation. There should be no confusion on this.
Nagas are for solution and peace but not in capitulation. Never ever shall we lay down our arms, our freedom and our Nagalim. A deviation from this national line, is, but a treacherous traitor. Nagas would never seek a solution via constitution of India or Myanmar. Nagalim issue is neither internal matter nor law and order problem of India or Myanmar. Any attempt of solution in the name of peace and development within the constitution of India or Myanmar is an outright “sell-out”; and only traitor would betray the national cause. May the curse of God be upon them that betray the righteous cause of Nagalim. Nagalim shall be for Christ eternally and the divine will for the Nagas shall be done here on earth.
Political negotiation is a means and not an end. The earnest negotiations between the Government of India (GoI) and National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN) has led to the signing of Framework Agreement (FA) on August 3, 2015 whereby GoI has duly recognized the unique history and sovereignty of Nagalim. Accordingly, Naga national flag and constitution, being constituents’ part of sovereignty, are duly recognized in the letter and spirit of FA. The political statesmanship of late Chairman Isak ChishiSwu and General Secretary Th. Muivah are highly praised. The ongoing Indo-Naga political talk can be concluded but only through respecting and honoring the letter and spirit of FA that has been duly recognized and acknowledged Nagalim national flag and constitution. The process of delaying to conclude the Indo Naga political talk may do more harm than good to both the negotiating parties.
