The Wancho Region of the NSCN-IM has issued a clarification regarding media reports about Shikngam Wangpan, a surrendered female cadre who reportedly claimed to be a Corporal of the NSCN-IM before the Assam Rifles in Khonsa, Tirap district.
In a statement, the Wancho Region clarified that Wangpan was formerly part of the Naga Army but had been officially discharged from active national service on 2nd April 2024. Since her discharge, she has been a civilian, and any claims suggesting she still holds an official rank are inaccurate.
The statement acknowledged her past contributions to the Naga nation but criticized the alleged exaggeration of her role before the Assam Rifles, describing it as a “concocted narrative” and not her first instance of such claims.
The Wancho Region urged media outlets to verify all claims before publication, emphasizing the importance of ethical journalism.
The clarification was issued by the Caretaker/CAO of the Wancho Region, GPRN.
