The Naga National Movement for Sovereignty (NSCN-K), led by Maj Gen (Rtd. Ang Mai, Nyeiton Konyak, and Kughalu Mulatonu, has issued a statement reaching out to the Naga people and others striving to restore Naga sovereignty. The message, part of their 2025 greeting, underscores that any ceasefire with India should not be viewed as a way to “portray an individualistic or factional disillusionment over Naga politics” or be concluded with “Accords, Records, and Agreements.” The statement emphasizes, “Cease-fire is not the end in itself, it is only the roadmap to produce Political Settlement and deviations from this universal fact would cost irreparable loss to Nagas and India.”
The NSCN-K reiterated that the group’s recent engagement with the Government of India for a bilateral cease-fire was a positive response to the approaches made by some Naga NGOs and the Indian Consulate. The statement stresses, “No group should covertly transform and manipulate the ongoing Cease-fire with India to breed Factionalism, Accordism, Groupism and lure foreign-bred Nagas or foreign Nationals be part-takers in the Naga Nationalism to adulterate the Sacred Cause.”
Additionally, the group addressed concerns over groups that have “funded and surrendered to Indian Army,” calling for the immediate cessation of illegal taxation from innocent Nagas under the pretext of a political ceasefire. “Such groups must live under complete rehabilitation packages from the Government of India and its agencies concerned,” the statement reads.
NSCN-K further stated, “NSCN will always keep its doors opened to welcome and assist any group of people, race or nation who are willing to struggle and restore one’s Identity, Freedom and Self-determination.” The group affirmed that their stance on Naga sovereignty remains unshaken and steadfast.
In relation to the Indo-Myanmar border, the statement firmly warned, “The Government of India must not rack up the issue of Indo-Myanmar Border Fencing while in cease-fire and talks with the Nagas as such intentional rhetorics would be nothing more than a ‘cassus belli’. It is a schemed trait to support the re-introduction of another bloody Indo-Naga war, heinous vendetta to support a prima facie.”
The NSCN-K also criticized the Neiphiu Rio-led government in Nagaland, calling for an end to what they describe as “unceremonious financial aid” to various groups, alleging hypocrisy in their actions. “There can be no greater crime against the Nagas than destroying the very foundation of Naga Nationalism,” the statement declared.
The NSCN-K reaffirmed its commitment to Naga sovereignty, stating, “NSCN will not betray the Nagas, India, and Myanmar on the issue of Naga Sovereignty.” They also expressed gratitude to neighboring nations, saying, “our unshakable integrity, honesty and gratitude will always remain to the People’s Republic of China, Pakistan and Bangladesh who were partners in shaping the foundation of Naga Revolution.”
I couldn’t refrain from commenting. Very well written!
