The NSCN-K (YA) has issued a public warning over alleged extortion attempts in Kohima, stating that individuals posing as members of the organisation have been approaching government departments and business establishments for money.

In a statement issued by its Ministry of Information and Publicity on March 28, the group said it had “uncovered a disturbing case” of impersonation, where “unscrupulous individuals” were misusing its name to solicit funds.

The organisation clarified that it has not authorised any individual or group to carry out financial collections in Kohima district.

“We have not assigned or entrusted any person(s) for finance collection in Kohima,” the statement said, urging government offices, private businesses and the public not to entertain any such demands.

It further stated that any financial transactions or agreements made in its name in the district would be considered invalid unless officially communicated through proper channels.

Reiterating its stand, the NSCN/GPRN said it maintains a “zero-tolerance policy” towards impersonation, fraud and exploitation carried out under its name.

The group also called for vigilance, stating that public cooperation remains “the best defence” against such activities.
