The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), in a press release dated 3rd June 2025, stated that extreme monsoon weather occurrences have begun causing widespread damage across the State. The NSDMA, Home Department, has received several reports of damage to houses, roads, bridges, breast walls of roads, paddy fields, and jhum cultivations.
In Kohima, a major land sinking was reported near Kisama Heritage Village. A significant landslide was also reported on the Kigwema–Mima–Chakhabama road. Additionally, a major retaining wall collapsed at Phesama village.
In Tuensang district, a landslide was reported at Phingjang Ward, Tuensang Town. A road blockage was also reported on the Tobu road below Tuensang Village. Due to a windstorm, an Anganwadi centre was damaged at Phir Ahir village under Longkhim sub-division.
In Kiphire district, continuous rain caused landslides and road blockades between Khongiri and Mimi villages, and at Luther village. Another landslide was reported between 02 Junction and Pungro Town, as well as at Singrep village. Damage to agricultural fields was reported from Moya and Pungro villages.
In Meluri district, the VG Office guard room was damaged by a landslide. Paddy fields along the Araju River in Reguri Village were affected due to overflowing of the river. A retaining wall collapsed at Wutsi Colony, affecting a residential house.
In Noklak district, road blockages were reported on the Noklak–Chingmei–Tuensang road, Noklak–Pangsha road, Panso–Tuensang road via Kusong, Noklak–Tsuwao village road, and the Panso–Saddle–Tuensang road.
In Shamator district, several maize fields were damaged by windstorm and torrential rain in Chassir Village. A major landslide occurred on the Shamator–Kiphire road.
In Mokokchung district, a retaining wall collapsed and damaged a residential house at Mongsenbai Ward. At Luyong Ward under Mangkolemba sub-division, another retaining wall collapsed, affecting a nearby footpath and three residential houses.
In Wokha district, several electric poles were uprooted due to a cyclonic windstorm, causing power supply interruptions. A landslide at Tribal Circuit, Doyang, damaged the office reception and cafeteria building.
In Zunheboto district, a landslide was reported in Atoizu sub-division.
In Peren district, road blockages were reported between Vamsi Akilesh and New Ngaulong.
The NSDMA, Home Department, has appealed to all District Disaster Management Authorities to remain alert to safeguard lives and property during this monsoon season.
