The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has issued a weather advisory for the period from May 12 to 15, warning of thunderstorms, lightning and rainfall across several districts of the state.

According to the advisory, light rain and isolated thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely to occur on May 12 in parts of Kohima, Wokha, Mokokchung, Longleng and Mon districts, while no major weather warning has been issued for most other districts.

On May 13, localized thunderstorms with lightning and light to moderate rainfall are expected in Kohima, Chümoukedima, Dimapur, Peren, Wokha, Mokokchung, Mon, Longleng and Tseminyu districts.

Thunderstorms with lightning and light to moderate rainfall are likely to continue on May 14 in many districts, with Longleng district expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall at isolated places.

On May 15, scattered intermittent light to moderate rainfall is expected in districts including Kohima, Chümoukedima, Dimapur, Mokokchung, Mon and Tseminyu. Mon district may also experience moderate to heavy intermittent rainfall.

In view of the forecast, NSDMA advised the public to remain cautious during thunderstorms and lightning activity and avoid taking shelter under trees or near electric poles during bad weather conditions.

Residents in low-lying and landslide-prone areas have also been advised to stay alert for possible waterlogging, flash floods and landslides.

NSDMA further requested all District Disaster Management Authorities and concerned departments to remain on alert and take precautionary measures to ensure public safety.
